Abstract
Binding of nalidixic acid which is used primarily in the treatment of urinary infection, and probenecid which is used as a uricosuric agent was studied using difference spectroscopy method. 2-(4`-hydroxybenzeneazo) benzoic acid is a spectrophotometric probe which shows absorption spectrum changes upon binding to protein. Difference absorption spectra of this probe were used as an indirect measurement of the binding of nalidixic acid and probenecid to bovine serum albumin. The results obtained using the spectrophotometric probe indicated that the numbers of the binding sites of two drugs were 2, and the association constants at 20¡É of nalidixic acid and probenecid were 1.07 ¡¿ 10©ù M^(-1) and 1.17 ¡¿10©ù M^(-1), respectiively.
